FG’s Agric City laudable initiative, will boost food security- CEED

ABUJA-The Centre for Entrepreneurial Exchange Development, CEED, has lauded the initiative and move by the Federal Government to establish Agriculture City at Kerkete Village in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The commendation was made by Chairman, CEED, Hon Uchechukwu Chukwuma, while emphasising the need to make agriculture sector attractive and lucrative for young people to venture into as a means of livelihood and prosperity irrespective of their background. Chukwuma said: “The youth in Nigeria has the potential to drive all sectors of the economy with their number and strength coupled with their readiness to explore opportunities made available to them.

“The recent development disclosed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, on the Agriculture City at Kerkete Village in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, which 15, 000 hectares of land has been acquired for the project is highly commendable and we applaud such initiative to meaningfully engage young people.

“If over 3, 000 youth will be accommodated in this city with all of them being busy with various agribusinesses the economy will greatly improve and food importation will tremendously reduce and also curb social vices in the country.”

He also urged the federal government to promptly source for funds and carry along development partners in the project for quick completion, and to avoid being a white elephant project as similar projects by past administrations were abandoned.

“We also appeal to the federal government to promptly release fund for the rapid development of the city because the potential of the farm park is huge and would increase the Gross Domestic Product, GDP, of the economy.

Also should seriously carry along development partners for easy funding of the project. “The government should ensure it does not become a white elephant project as past administrations failed to complete similar projects”, he added. He also pledged to be part of the project and will be ready to partner with the Ministry to actualise it.

“The Centre for Entrepreneurial Exchange Development, CEED, will partner with the Ministry to ensure the project is actualised within the stipulated time for completion. “We are into development of entrepreneurial potential of young over the years with our international partners at the centre, and we want to be part of this good initiative. In fact, the project is very dear to us because it will boost the economy and enhance the nation’s food security and sufficiency”, he stated.
